Katra Vaishno Devi

Vaishno Devi Temple, located in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, is one of the most revered Hindu temples in India. Dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi, the temple is situated at an altitude of approximately 5,200 feet in the Trikuta Mountains. Devotees from all over the world visit this holy shrine to seek the blessings of the goddess. The temple is accessible via a trek of about 13.5 kilometers from the base camp at Katra. The trek is scenic and filled with spiritual fervor, with many devotees chanting hymns and singing bhajans along the way. The entire journey can take around 5 to 6 hours, depending on your pace and the time of year. For those unable to trek, helicopter services are available from Katra to Sanjichhat, which is close to the temple. From Sanjichhat, it’s a short walk to the temple complex. The temple itself consists of three natural rock formations called the Pindis, which represent the three forms of the goddess: Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. Devotees believe that visiting the temple fulfills their wishes, and many undertake this pilgrimage as a form of penance or to seek solace in times of trouble. The holy cave temple is open throughout the year, but the best time to visit is during the Navaratri festival, which falls in the months of September and October. During this time, the temple witnesses a huge influx of devotees, and the atmosphere is filled with religious fervor and celebration.
